News Watch: AGGRETSUKO #1 Sells Out Upon Release, Returns for 2nd Printing

Sanrio’s newest darling proves again why she’s the successor to the Hello Kitty dynasty that we all deserve.

When Aggretsuko issue #1 dropped February 5 it saw an immediate problem; they couldn’t keep it on the shelves. Oni press had expected demand for a comic based on such a popular series but as of today, they will have to send it back for a second run to meet popular demand.

Aggretsuko #1 selling out is what happens when you combine a great creative team with a super fun cast of characters,” says Oni Press editor-in-chief, Sarah Gaydos. “Meet me at the karaoke bar, first rounds on me!”

Aggretsuko writer Daniel Barnes says “This is wild! I’m so glad everyone’s snatching up Aggretsuko’s debut issue! It just goes to show you that Retsuko resonates with audiences, regardless of the medium she’s in!”

This isn’t exactly new territory for Oni Press. Their wildly popular Rick and Morty and Invader Zim series have seen huge numbers since the series inceptions but with the astonishing reception for Aggretsuko, Oni Press is going to re-release its first issue with a brand new cover to appear D.J. Kirkland to release alongside its second issue on March 11th.

Aggretsuko #1 reunites Daniel Barnes and D.J. Kirkland, the team behind the widely acclaimed graphic novel, The Black Mage. bringing Kirkland’s colorful anime-influenced style to Aggretsuko, the hit Netflix show in production for season three.

If you’re hoping for a copy of Issue one before the second issue hits stores however never fear. Orders are due from retailers on both the #1 reprint on Monday, February 17
