A Disney movie in comic form, how much better can it get?
With Disney’s Dumbo: Friends in High Places being released on March 29 and Disney’s Aladdin following released on April 30 Dark Horse comics and Disney are banking on their partnership with two new graphic novels based the on live-action projects, following the publisher’s vision of the studio’s animated movies to this point.
Dark Horse will release both titles as a 72-page paperback, each available for $10.99. Starting with Disney’s Dumbo: Friends in High Places, an anthology of stories based on the upcoming Tim Burton adaptation of the animated classic, in March and then followed by Disney’s Aladdin in late April. Like the Dumbo release, it will be a collection of stories written by one sole writer; John Jackson Miller on Dumbo and Corinna Bechko on Aladdin with artists for these projects consisting of Giovanni Rigano, Alberto Zanon, Paolo Antista, Michela Bovo and Pablo Vite.
In addition to owning comic book giant Marvel comics and making a deal with IDW Entertainment for kids over comics based on Star Wars and the Marvel character, last years deal between Dark Horse and Disney has produced comic releases based on Frozen, Zootopia, Incredibles 2, animated properties and hopefully more to come.
