NEWS WATCH: Andy Serkis Signs on to Direct Venom Sequel

It’s official, Andy Serkis has signed on to direct the sequel to 2018’s surprise hit film Venom!

The announcement comes after weeks of speculation that hinted he was in talks to direct. With the original film’s director Ruben Fleischer out of the picture, Andy Serkis will step in to direct his first comic book film.

After the the first film grossed $856 million dollars in it’s theatrical run, a sequel was surely inevitable. Sony’s Spider-Man related cinematic universe appears to be in full motion now with multiple other films currently in development. This will be Serkis’ third film to direct after 2017’s Breathe and the Netflix special Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.

Venom 2 already has a script from Kelly Marcel and will feature Woody Harrelson’s villain Cletus Kasady aka Carnage as the primary antagonist. Serkis is widely known for his expertise with CG, providing key input for franchises such as Lord of the Rings and Planet of the Apes, so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the Venom 2 film after the prominence of CGI in the original.

Serkis commented on the announcement on his Instagram account stating “Verified It’s actually happening. I can feel it, the Symbiote has found a host in me, and I’m ready for the ride…Can’t wait,”

There has been no other information released as of yet, but as always, stay tuned to Comic Watch for all your fandom news and reviews!
