NEWS WATCH: Animated TRANSFORMERS Movie Coming to the Big Screen

Hasbro’s entertainment studio eOne and Paramount are set to deliver a big-screen animated Transformers movie and have already hired Josh Cooley, who recently won the Best Animated Film Oscar for Toy Story 4.

According to Deadline, the animated Transformers theatrical release already has a script written by Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari, who did production work on Ant-Man and were the credited writers on the sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp. The two scribes have been working on the animated film for several years, going back to when they joined the writers’ room with the directive to expand the Transformers universe.

Deadline also reported that sources have said that the film will take place on Cybertron, the Transformer’s home planet, and serves as a prequel that revolves around the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron. The film is also separate and set apart from the live-action Transformers film series and the Bumblebee spinoff.

As the studios take stock of restarting production in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is becoming clear that making a big-scale animated feature is easier than a live-action tentpole because so much of the work can be done while respecting social distancing.

No release date was given at this time.
