Yesterday night, as part of some of the activities that are taking place in this weekend’s Comic Con scheduling, Big Gold Belt Media opened up a conversation about the responsibility and (presence or lack of) compliances, policies and regulation that conventions need for being able to deal with harassment. In the middle of an important conversation on the theme in comics, cosplaying, wrestling and beyond, this roundtable served to discuss and expose some measures you can take to make those spaces safer, especially when the shift after COVID makes conventions radically different.
The pannel also held a very important conversation ( including Emma Houxbois, Micaiah @theouterscience and Eri Kagami) about gender non-conforming and trans liberation through expression, conventions’ cosplay culture, and generally LGBTQ people in cons and both the unique opportunities and dangers they face, as well as other themes like racism in cosplay or measurements against transphobia in IDs of staff. And it’s the promise that these conversations are gonna keep happening.
