From galactic odyssey to space opera Brian K, Vaughan keeps his writing in the stars with Gundam
Comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan, best known for such great works like Saga, Ex Machina, and Y: The Last Man is now on board to write the screenplay for the live-action Gundam movie by Legendary Entertainment and will also serve as an executive producer on the film.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam, created by Yoshiyuki Tomino the anime debut in 1979 and officially cemented the mecha genre from that point on. Mobile Suit Gundam takes place in humanities future in universal century 0079 where the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon have gone to war using giant robots called mobile suits in combat. In hopes of getting the upper hand in the conflict, the Earth Federation unveils a new prototype giant robot known as the RX-78-2 Gundam that is piloted by teenage mechanic Amuro Ray.
With the immense popularity of all things Gundam, Legendary Entertainment took the opportunity to get Brian K. Vaughan, who in December signed a three-year deal with Legendary that includes the adaptation of his works into both TV and film to and create new titles, to write the next chapter in the global phenomenon that is Gundam.
