NEWS WATCH: Captain Marvel 1 (billion) Toxic Fandom 0 as Film Breaks $1 Billion Barrier

Captain Marvel crossed the $1 billion dollar mark on Tuesday becoming the seventh Marvel  Comics Universe film.

As reported by EW, according to information released by Disney in an official press release, the film which has Brie Larsson as the titular role earned $358.1 million in North America and $644.5 Globally for a total amount of $1,002.6 billion. China is where the film has enjoyed it’s highest single country gross earning $152.3 million so far.

This comes despite a certain section of fandom boycotting the film after taking statements made by Larson regarding diversity in the area of film critics in completely the wrong way which was further amplified and distorted across social media platforms by certain factions in the comics community. It seems that the malcontent and call to boycott has failed in its attempt to have a significant impact on the success of the movie both domestically and globally.

Captain Marvel joins the pantheon of highest grossing female-led movies in the domestic American market in seventh place. The film continues to play in theatres and in less than a month Captain Marvel will join what’s left of the Avengers to face off against Thanos in Avengers: End Game.
