Neil Gaiman ends his vision quest, as the adaptation of his award-winning novel continues with the third and final outing. And worlds will collide as the final act is revealed. No sooner has the second season of Starz’s hit fantasy show American Gods arrived on Amazon than Dark Horse announced the imminent publication of the third installment of their comic adaptation. Based on the Hugo, Bram Stoker, Locus, World Fantasy, and Nebula Award-winning novel by Neil Gaiman published by Headline in 2001, American Gods: The Moment of the Storm will arrive on 17th April and follows Shadow Moon as he heads into the closing events of the American Gods narrative.
After acquiring the North American rights in 2016 from Gaiman’s literary agent at Writers House, Dark Horse shared with the world their vision of the novel in the previous two chapters of the novel, namely American Gods: Shadows of 2017 and American Gods: My Ainsel of 2018. Readers of the previous series will be pleased to know the adaptation will once again be helmed by Neil himself. And he will again be joined by the same creative team of the last two installments as P. Craig Russell will script, with Scott Hampton returning for the role of the interior artist and covers again by Glenn Fabry. When we left Shadow Moon in the final issue of My Ainsel he was in the company of Nancy and Czernobog after receiving news of the death of Wednesday.
And now we see the creative team will continue the tale of Shadow, Wednesday and his entourage of elder deities, as they inevitably face off against the gods of a new age. This final arc of the story will see the two enemy sides meeting to exchange the body of the old gods’ fallen leader, which then leads to the clash we have all been waiting for and the inevitable god war.
