DC Comics recently revealed plans for a new Batman and the Outsiders series from current Detective Comics writer Bryan Edward Hill and art by Dexter Soy. The series will spin out of Hill’s five-issue arc which ends with Detective Comics #987.
The roster of the newly announced team will feature some major characters that will undoubtedly make for an interesting series. Batman and the Outsiders will star the latest addition to the Batfamily and Gotham’s daytime protector Signal alongside Black Lightning, Katana, Orphan, and of course, Batman himself!
With the first arc from Hill on Detective Comics titled “On the Outside” and featuring original Outsiders member Black Lightning, there have been some rumors circulating that suggested a series could potentially be coming. Now we have confirmation from writer Bryan Edward Hill himself.
“All I’ll say is, it is a team book with Batman in it, but the safety is off. Hopefully it will be surprising and thrilling in ways that I don’t think people will quite expect. I’m becoming known a bit for a certain kind of intensity in my work and I think this Outsiders project will also continue on in that pathway” – Bryan Edward Hill
The new series will differ slightly from the original in that Batman will participate as a member of both the Outsiders and the Justice League, but it sounds like Hill has a lot of great things in store. His work with DC Comics so far has proven his claims about a “certain kind of intensity” in his work to be absolutely true, so fans can surely expect a captivating story. And with the talented artist Dexter Soy (Red Hood and the Outlaws) on board, the creative team is looking to deliver something really amazing.
