Just over one year ago DETECTIVE COMICS, one of the flagship titles at DC COMICS published their 1000th issue. This year the publisher is celebrating another milestone for the title with DETECTIVE COMICS#1027 which hits shelves in September.
What is so special about DETECTIVE COMICS #1027? Why it is only the 1000th issue of Batman’s appearance and becoming the main feature of the title. To celebrate DC Comics has planned andall-star celebration in September’s Detective Comics No. 1027, which will be an oversize issue featuring the contributions of creators from throughout the character’s history.
Along with the regular Detective Comics creative team of Peter Tomasi and Brad Walker, contributing a story to the 144-page issue will be veteran Batman creators such as Greg Rucka, Tom King, Brian Michael Bendis, Marv Wolfman, Mariko Tamaki HARLEY QUINN: BREAKING GLASS) and more. Artists such as Walt Simonson, Eduardo Risso, Emanuela Lupacchino, Bill Sienkiewicz, and Chip Zdarsky will also be joining the party.
Beyond the short stories in the collection, there’ll also be a gallery of “tribute art” from illustrators including José Luis García-López, Jorge Jiménez and Far Sector’s Jamal Campbell.
In a statement published in The Hollywood Reporter, Batman group editor Ben Abernathy said,
“Detective No. 1027 has been a massive undertaking, and I’m really excited for fans to see what editors Paul Kaminski and Dave Wielgosz have in store come September. A great combination of writers and artists are putting in their best work on the book and fans should pay close attention to these stories, since some of them will plant the seeds for both Batman’s future and that of the DC universe.”
DETECTIVE COMICS #1027 lands on comic racks on September 15, 2020, a mere 18 months after the release of the similarly oversize Detective Comics No. 1000, one of the best-selling comics of 2019 in its original format; which was later reissued, with additional material, as a stand-alone hardcover edition.
