New Transformer series returns to a time before Cybertron was ravaged by war
Before there is war there must be peace and IDW is poised to chronicle Cybertron’s halcyon years in a new world defining comic. This relaunch for the Transformers comic book promises to reveal the origins of the conflict between the Autobots and the Decepticons expanding the franchise in new directions from an ancient time.
IDW’s new book titled plainly “Transformers” will be written by Brian Ruckley and drawn by Angel Hernandez and Ron Joseph telling the story of Cybertron before the war, and of the mysterious death that ended an age of peace on the planet. Bumblebee, the star of his own movie, will be one of the protagonists of the new title, which will be published twice a month.
Michael Kelly, Hasbro’s VP of global publishing, said in a statement about the new series “We are eager to begin this new chapter in Transformers storytelling,” and elaborated on this new chapter when he said “We are excited to begin a tale that will be accessible and appealing to readers unfamiliar with Transformers lore, while still providing the depth and drama that our longtime fans expect. It’s a big responsibility, but we’ve got the right team and the right characters to do it.”
“A real privilege,” Ruckley, a fantasy novelist from Scotland, described writing the new series and added, “Just as important, it’s an amazing opportunity for new readers to discover and explore one of the biggest universes — and one of the best casts of characters — that science fiction has to offer, and to get in right at the start of a truly epic saga.”
The bimonthly series will be available in March of 2019. The first two issues of the series will both feature multiple covers by artists including Gabriel Rodriguez, Freddie E. Williams II and Jeffrey Veregge with Hernandez and Joseph also providing covers for the new IDW series.
