James Wan and Sergio Bonelli are coming together for a new Dylan Dog TV series
Who are the best five paranormal investigators in comics, think about it, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan and “Dylan Dog” because he shoots hot fire. Hopefully, that’s why “Aquaman” director James Wan’s Atomic Monster is partnering with Italian comics publisher Sergio Bonelli Editore to co-produce a series for the horror comic in English.
This new series based on the Italian horror comic Dylan Dog is up for a 10-episode live-action show. A year ago Bonelli created Bonelli Entertainment with the idea to have production in place when they bought back the rights to the comic from Hollywood indie Hyde Park Entertainment. Hyde Park Entertainment adapted the comic into a movie titled “Dylan Dog: Dead of Night” which was a financial and critical flop unlike the 1994 Italian film Cemetery Man (Dellamorte Dellamore). Executive producers on the Dylan Dog series will include Vincenzo Sarno and Giovanni Cova development chief for Bonelli Entertainment with James Wan and Michael Clear as executive producers for Atomic Monster. The project does not yet have a network or writer attached to it.
The new Dylan Dog series will be like the 33-year old horror comic which follows the exploits of its titular British paranormal investigator, who along with his sidekick Groucho, a Groucho Marx impersonator, take on cases that usually involved monsters, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and zombies. Published in the U.S. by Dark Horse Comics, the series has more than 500 installments and sales of more than 50 million copies worldwide.
“Dylan Dog is truly one of my favorite comic books ever. I was first introduced to the Nightmare Investigator back in high school by my European friends. And though I didn’t understand the foreign text, I easily understood the story through the beautiful artwork and its loving references to the horror genre. I’m excited to team with Sergio Bonelli Editore to bring this to life on screen.” said Wan in a statement while Milan based publishers president Davide Bonelli said “James Wan and Atomic Monster are masters of the horror genre and have a proven sensibility on how best to adapt comics to the screen. We are so thrilled to have this dream team working on one of our most important characters.”
