NEWS WATCH: Fantomex Returns in Giant Size X-Men: Fantomex #1

Fantomex, the technologically advanced half-machine/ half-mutant, makes his return to the Marvel Universe in the one-shot, Giant-Size X-Men: Fantomex #1 as part of Johnathan Hickman’s second wave of the Dawn of X storyline.

Created by Grant Morrison and first appearing in New X-Men #128 (Aug. 2002), Fantomex’s character has been through many changes since joining the X-Men universe. He has served as the host body for Charles Xavier’s resurrected mind, was a member of X-Force, and then recruited by Magneto to the X-Men following the events of Secret Wars.

Giant-Size X-Men: Fantomex #1 reunites Hickman with his New Mutants collaborator artist Rob Reis as the two reveal what this born killer, who chose the life of a gentleman super-thief, has been up to in the new mutant world order.

In an interview with the AV Club, Rob Reis talked about why he and Hickman picked Fantomax for his own Giant X-Men issue:

As Jonathan Hickman and I were talking about characters for this Giant-Size X-Men issue, I said I was looking for crazy and weird characters that would allow me to play with panel layouts and do crazy stuff, so we decided that Fantomex would be the perfect choice. I loved what we did with New Mutants. I had so much fun working with those characters, and people can expect this book to be a lot of fun too.

Fans will have to wait till May until the issue hits the stands. Until then, the cover is sure to leave readers wondering what adventures await as Fantomax breaks into the artificial realm where he was created, The World.

GIANT-SIZE X-MEN: FANTOMEX #1

The hit creative team of Jonathan Hickman & Rod Reis (NEW MUTANTS) turn their attention to the covert activities of the Weapon Plus program’s Weapon XIII! A bred killer who chose the life of a gentleman super-thief, Fantomex has always defied expectations… For example, who would expect him to break into the World, the artificial realm of his creation? And then again? And then… again?

GIANT-SIZE X-MEN: FANTOMEX #1 arrives May 2020
