The Mean Green Mother From Outer Space is Back! Frank Oz’s Little Shop of Horrors is returning this October on Sunday the 29th and Tuesday the 31st Halloween. And for the first time, audiences will get to see the original ending to the film!
In the original ending of Little Shop of Horrors, the one used in the Broadway musical, Audrey 2 takes over the world. Director Frank Oz fought to get it shot which wound up adding $5 million dollars to the budget. Warner Bros. did not like the ending calling it “Too dark”. Showing it to test audiences, the audience agreed with the studio. So we got the much more upbeat ending seen in the film. Now the ending has been restored and Fathom Events will be bringing it to theatres for two days in October. But that’s not all…!
Pop Funko has a set of Little Shop of Horrors pops. The basic set has Seymour, Audrey, The Dentist and Audrey 2.
There is also an Audrey 2 plush and a baby Audrey 2 exclusive (from Target). An Audrey 2 chase figure is also out there going for about $50 in various places.
But wait! There’s more news! Greg Berlanti, known for his DC comics series on The CW and Riverdale, is mounting a remake of the musical. According to Berlanti, he’s still in the writing stages of the project and it is unknown at this time whether original Little Shop of Horrors composer Alan Menken will be involved in the project or not. Usually Broadway musical to film adaptations include a new song so the film can get possible Oscar recognition for Best Song at the Academy Awards. The original songs are not eligible for Oscar consideration since they must be new. The original The Mean Green Mother is back movie included “Mean Green Mother From Outer Space” written for the movie. But with the original Little Shop of Horrors being such a beloved classic the big question really is do we need a remake? The studio is now the one screaming “Feed Me!”.
