The cast of “WARRIOR NUN” adds Sylvia De Fanti to its ranks
This week it was revealed that another cast member for the upcoming Netflix original action-drama series Warrior Nun has pick Sylvia De Fanti (Empire, Medici) to play the role of Mother Superion. Back in September of 2018, Netflix announced that they would adapt a series for their network based on the Warrior Nun Areala manga-style comic book series, with a series order for the first season. In March of 2019, it was publicized that Alba Baptista, Toya Turner, Tristan Ulloa, Thekla Reuten, Kristina Toniteri-Young, Lorena Andrea, Emilio Sakraya are all starring in the shows first season.
Simon Barry (Continuum) is not only credited as show creator but will also server as showrunner and executive producer with Stephen Hegyes (White Noise). Amy Berg (Da Vinci’s Demons) will be consulting producer while Terri Hughes Burton (100) is co-executive producer.
Simon Barry’s, Warrior Nun centers on Ava (Baptista) who is a 19-year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth. An order Mother Superion (De Fanti) is responsible for training the Warrior Nuns, and while she might not give the orders, she’s the one who really runs the place. Having witnessed horrors as a child, she’s burdened with the guilt of the things she did and didn’t do while just trying to survive and preparing Ava to deal with powerful forces representing both heaven and hell that want to find and control her.
Barry show differs from the original Warrior Nun Areala 90’s comic book by Ben Dunn which is about Sister Shannon Master who joins the Order of the Cruciform Sword, a fictional para-military order of Warrior Nuns and Magic Priests utilized by the Catholic Church. Master is soon chosen to be Areala, the next avatar of the creator of the order and spearhead their mission for a new generation.
No word yet on release date, how many episodes in the season, or if the two CD singles from Pink Filth and Bad Habit’s Monkey on the Throne and others will make it to the show.
