NEWS WATCH: Guy Gardner Cast For Upcoming HBO MAX GREEN LANTERN TV Series

The Green Lantern Corps has found their Guy Gardner.

Finn Wittrock has been tapped for the upcoming Green Lantern in HBO Max’s series from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

According to Deadline, Finn Wittrock, best known for American Horror Story, has been cast as the hot-headed, no-nonsense Earth Green Lantern best known for his refusal to back down from any fight.  The series written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Seth Grahame-Smith, promises to reinvent the classic DC property through a story that spans not only decades, beginning on Earth in 1941 with FBI agent Alan Scott the first Green Lantern, alpha male Guy Gardner (Wittrock) from 1984, but also galaxies with half-alien Bree Jarta.

Initial reports have Wittrock’s Guy Gardner/Green Lantern cast as a hulking mass of masculinity, and embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism, in line with his comic book persona, yet will somehow be likable.

Wittrock has earned two Emmy nominations for work in American Horror Story: Freak Show and for Versace: American Crime Story and will be joining the Berlanti TV universe after working exclusively in series for the past seven years with TV producer, Ryan Murphy.

Guy Gardner’s appearance in the upcoming show not the first time the character has headlined a show. The 1997 CBS Justice League of America pilot featured Matthew Settle playing Guy.

Berlanti, Guggenheim, and Grahame-Smith are set to executive produce with Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and David Katzenberg; and Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi as co-executive producers.

Stay tuned for updates concerning other castings and series premiere dates.
