Henderson Wade (Riverdale, Extant) has been cast in the series regular role of Matthew Cable, a long-running Swamp Thing supporting character who was introduced in the comics back in 1972. Originally an agent for an organization called the Defense Department Intelligence, Cable was tasked with keeping scientist Alec Holland safe. He ultimately fails in that task and blames the Swamp Thing for Alec Holland’s death. This version of Cable has been reimagined as a childhood friend of Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) who had a crush on her in their younger years.
Swamp Thing will debut on the DC Universe subscription streaming site in 2019 as one if its original series, joining the ranks of Titans and the upcoming Doom Patrol and Stargirl series. Though the character of Matthew Cable has a history with both Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol in the comics, given that the creators have stated that the Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol series on the streaming service will not have a shared continuity, his appearance on the latter show is unlikely. This version of Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane as she returns to her rural Louisiana hometown on a mission, investigating what looks to be a swamp-born virus, only to discover that the swamp is full of terrifying, mystical secrets.
Swamp Thing is from executive producers James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Len Wiseman based on characters from DC that were created by Len Wein and Berni Wrightson. Rob Hackett is co-producer. The series is produced by Atomic Monster in association with Warner Bros. Television. Len Wiseman will direct the first episode off of a script by Verheiden and Dauberman.
Wade is repped by the Strain Group and Stride Management.
