NEWS WATCH: Henry Cavill Puts Away the Cape and Picks up a Sword in Netflix’s “The Witcher.”

From Henry Cavill to DC’s Kal-El and now the Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia.

The new “Witcher” TV series for Netflix has its lead and it’s none other then Henry Cavill the man of steel.

The news came out via Instagram and this new Netflix series will be Cavill’s return to television since his role in the 2010 Showtime historical drama “The Tudors.” Lauren Schmidt Hissrich who will be the executive producer and showrunner of the Netflix series also chimed in on Twitter.

Additionally, Alik Sakharov, Alex Garcia Lopez, and Charlotte Brändström are all directing episodes of the eight-episode first season. Sakharov will serve as executive producer and direct four episodes, including the first whereas Garcia Lopez and Brändström will direct two each.

The series will reportedly not be based on the popular video game by CD Projekt Red but instead will follow the bestselling novel by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowaski, a fantasy series of short stories and novels about the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia. In Sapkowski’s books, “witchers” are monster hunters who (with training and body modification) develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle deadly beasts.

No other news has been reported on the Netflix series but I’m sure both fans of the novel and game are anxious to experience the new show.
