Get set to return to the world of Game Of Thrones!

House of the Dragon, the straight-to-series prequel from George R.R. Martin, Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik is being greenlit.

Based on Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series, the story is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and tells the story of House Targaryen. Co-created by Martin and Condal, the pilot script that landed the series order from HBOMax was written by Condal.

The series will star  Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Matt Smith as  Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Fabien Frankel.  Steve Toussaint will play Lord Corlys Velaryon, known as the Sea Snake, who becomes Hand to Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons. Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno also feature.

Condal will also serve as co-showrunner alongside GoT veteran Miguel Sapochnik, who is set to direct the pilot along with additional episodes. Martin, Condal and Sapochnik will executive produce alongside writer Sara Lee Hess, Vince Gerardis and Ron Schmidt. Greg Yaitanes co-executive produces. The 10-episode series’ directing team is rounded out by Yaitanes, Clare Kilner and Geeta V. Patel.

The series is currently in production and is set to launch in 2022.
