The Oni-Lion Forge Publishing Group is thrilled to announce the addition of Alex Segura as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Segura will oversee Oni-Lion Forge’s publicity, marketing, and sales efforts across various channels in addition to bringing over fifteen years of editorial, executive, and new business development experience to the company.
“While it’s been an amazing honor and privilege to call Riverdale my professional and creative home for over a decade when Oni-Lion Forge approached me with this opportunity, I couldn’t say no,” said Segura. “Getting the chance to help amplify the ever-expanding, talented, and diverse voices at Oni is a great fit, and I’m so excited to be part of the team behind some of my favorite comics ever. Looking forward to diving in and spreading the word on all things Oni.”
Segura’s first day at Oni-Lion Forge will be May 24. He joins the company after lengthy stints at Archie Comics, as Co-President who oversaw the company’s sales, marketing, publicity, editorial, and new business efforts, and DC Comics where he was the Executive Director of Publicity, where he focused on promoting the company’s primary DC Universe line in the comic and book trades, as well as in the mainstream press.
While at Archie Comics, Alex oversaw expanded publicity and awareness for the brand beginning in 2010, during which time he helped bring in a number of A-list talents (including Fiona Staples, Francesco Francavilla, Kelly Thompson, Mariko Tamaki, Marguerite Bennett, Duane Swiercynski, Audrey Mok, Veronica Fish, Chip Zdarsky, and more) to work on the beloved Archie characters. Additionally, Segura helped spearhead publishing and media partnerships with companies like Scholastic, Little Bee/BuzzPop, ComiXology, Spotify, Graphic Audio, WebToon, and more. Additionally, Segura oversaw the recent editorial successes like the landmark Archie #700 and Archie and Sabrina (which saw bestselling and acclaimed writer Mariko Tamaki step in as the first woman to write the main Archie title), Archie vs. Predator II, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch featuring the creative talents of Kelly Thompson and Veronica and Andy Fish, Vampironica, Blossoms 666, and crossovers as Archie Meets Batman ‘66 and many more.
“Not unlike what Dwayne Johnson delivers to blockbuster movies, Alex brings experience, talent, and charisma unmatched in comics publishing,” added James Lucas Jones, Publisher of Oni-Lion Forge. “His track record of smart decision-making is a matter of public record and his many long relationships across virtually all vectors of our business gives him a uniquely advantageous position in our industry. He brings so much to the team that it’s impossible to list. We’d be here all day.”
“Alex joining Oni-Lion Forge leadership is my favorite injection of excitement to any team since they added The Rock to FAST 5,” commented Executive Vice President, Creative & Business Development, Charlie Chu.
Segura is also an acclaimed writer. His next crime novel, SECRET IDENTITY (2022, Flatiron Books), is a murder mystery/noir set in 1975 New York’s comic book industry starring a Latinx female lead. Segura is also the author of the three-time Anthony Award-nominated Pete Fernandez Miami Mystery series (Polis Books) and Star Wars Poe Dameron: Free Fall (Disney Books). He has also written a number of comics including The Black Ghost superhero noir (Dark Horse/ComiXology Originals), and music-themed crossovers like Archie Meets KISS, Archie Meets the Ramones, and Archie Meets the B-52s, and the YA music series The Archies.
