Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has just announced British actress Michaela Coel will be joining the ensemble cast in the highly anticipated sequel!

Coel meteoric rise to fame amongst the Hollywood heavyweights after her HBOMax series “I May Destroy You” earned her four Emmy nominations. Coel wrote, produced, directed, and starred in the show that featured a writer in London dealing with the trauma of being raped, and her journey after.i

While the details on her role in the film has remained secret, she’s joining a film that was a landmark for Marvel Studios, as their first feature film with a major character who is a person of color, with a majority black cast and crew on it, that grossed $1.3 billion worldwide.

Kevin Feige told Variety’s Matt Donnelly “It’s clearly very emotional without Chad,” Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige told Variety in late June, referring to late star Chadwick Boseman, who died in August 2020 after battling colon cancer. “But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud.”

While additional cast has not been confirmed, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba and Angela Bassett are expected to return to their roles in the sequel.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is expected to hit theaters on July 8th, 2022.
