What happens when you take two pop culture icons and marry them to a comic book company? You get Rob Liefeld doing a brand new Snake Eyes book for IDW Comics, Snake Eyes: Deadgame. Snake Eyes is in the midst of a rebirth of sorts, with a solo movie in the works with Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) helming the project.
There has long been a correlation between comics laying the groundwork for character’s comeback in the pop culture sphere, Liefeld stated.
With comic events such as Heroes Reborn and The Ultimates were definitely huge influences for Marvel’s big-screen adaptations, its no wonder why IDW would want to work with someone who has had the success has Liefeld with rebirthing comic titles prior to silver screen dominance.
“I approached it as this gigantic Mission: Impossible that he has been dispatched on. As the layers get peeled away, it makes the threat more enormous,” says Liefeld. “Your character is always best when he is in completely over his head, and Snake Eyes finds out in the middle issue one just how in over his head he is.”
