NEWS WATCH: It’s Wands, Wizards and Elliot Ness in New Dark Horse Series!

What if it was a drug that gave you the ability to do magic that was banned during prohibition, not alcohol? That is the premise of Tommy Gun Wizards!

This August award-winning artist Christian Ward will make his writing debut in a four-issue limited series from Dark Horse Comics that will retell the story of Elliot Ness in an alternative Chicago where Al Capone was dealing in something vastly more dangerous than bootleg whiskey. Ness and his Untouchables will have their hands full in a town full of magic, monsters, and half baked magicians!

The solicit reads as follows:

Eliot Ness and his team of Untouchables work overtime taking on dangerous criminals that hide in the seedy underbelly of 1930s Chicago. Except in this world, Al Capone isn’t dealing in alcohol, but in magic. With Lick, a drug that grants magical powers to anyone who ingests it, mobsters become wizards, ordinary men become monsters, and darker secrets than Ness can imagine lying at the heart of it all in Tommy Gun Wizards.

The series will have the main story written by Ward, with art by Sami Kivelä. Fans of Ward’s art will be interested to know he will also be providing art for some of the backup stories featured in the series as well as sharing coloring duties with Dee Cunniffe. Declan Shalvey will be providing a variant cover for issue #1

“Tommy Gun Wizards features some really incredible world building and a fantastic high concept, and anchoring it all is Christian Ward’s impressive debut as a writer.”—Jeff Lemire

“Ward and Kivelä are bootleg magicians, dealing us the strong stuff.”—Kieron Gillen

The series will debut August 28th, 2019
