The latest news surrounding the next installment in the Spider-Man movie franchise is … SHOCKING! The next Spider-Man movie is getting a major jolt as reports of Jamie Foxx are circulating of a return to the Spider-verse as the villain Electro.

According to a story from The Hollywood Reporter, Foxx is in final talks to Foxx,  reprise his role as the Spidey villain Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which starred Alexander Garfield in the Spidey suit. The upcoming installment of Spider-Man has Tom Holland returning as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.

While story details about how they plan to do this are unknown, Foxx’s return is a stunner as it shows a further melding of the previous Spider-Man movies into the current Holland series, which first occurred in Far From Home with bringing back J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, the character he played in the Tobey Maguire-starring Spider-Man trilogy.

Foxx’s appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, starring Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man failed to impress critics, underperforming at the box office with $708.9 million globally. The disappointing box-office returns, along with the 2014 Sony hack, paved the way for Sony to do the unthinkable and strike a deal with Marvel Studios to share the character, leading to Holland starring as the web-slinger in the Avengers movies alongside other Marvel properties.

Despite his turn in the 2014 Spider-flick, Foxx continues to remain one of the most in-demand players in Hollywood and is currently starring in Project Power, a Netflix superhero drama, and is one of the voice stars in Pixar’s upcoming feature, Soul.

Foxx is not the only returning former Spider-franchise expected to return for the next film.  Jon Watts, the filmmaker behind Homecoming and last year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, is in the director’s chair for the third installment, and supporting cast from the previous movies, including Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, and Tony Revolori are expected to be on the call sheet when cameras roll in Atlanta this fall.

The next installment of the Tom Holland led Spider-Man film with Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal producing is tentatively set to release December 17, 2021.
