NEWS WATCH: Junkyard Joe’s Launch Will Include Special Edition to Benefit Veterans

Image and Mad Ghost Productions announce the release date of Junkyard Joe, the next installment of the Geigerverse. The new book, written by Geoff Johns with art from Gary Frank and colors by Brad Anderson, details the origin story of Junkyard Joe, a robot soldier, and his creator – a cartoonist – as they operate during the Vietnam War. The character was last seen in the Geiger 80-Page Giant #1, which established multiple heroes and a timeline for this shared universe.

The first issue of Junkyard Joe will be released on October 5, 2022, and along with the main book and its variant covers, a special black and white edition of the issue will also be available. The choice to release the black and white option is for the creative team to honor their grandparents who served in World War II, and the proceeds from the edition will be donated to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans in honor of Johns’ grandfather and the Veterans Aid in honor of Frank’s grandparents.

According to Johns, the series will take a look through the eyes of veterans, stating “My grandfather served during World War II and it changed his life forever. Junkyard Joe felt like an opportunity to raise not only visibility for these two amazing veteran organizations, but real financial support. It’s an honor to be working with the NCHV and VA.”

Additionally, Mad Ghost Productions is also donating $2 for every issue sold to the respective organizations.

Junkyard Joe #1 and Junkyard Joe #1: Special Black & White Veterans Edition will both be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, October 5. Junkyard Joe #1 will also be available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.
