20 years since their creation by Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley, the Thunderbolts, a rotating strike team made up entirely of villains, has been cleaning up messes in the Marvel Universe. Now the team that has been led by the likes of Norman Osborne and Baron Zemo, and included any number of villains such as Lady Deathstrike, Swordsman, Bullseye, and Jack O’Lantern, has been tapped by the Kingpin to save the city of New York as Knull, aka The King in Black arrives in December.
In a recent solicitation, Marvel has revealed that the Thunderbolts are gathering in a darkened New York City to face down an army of evil symbiote dragons from space as the King in Black event kicks-off in November, with Knull’s first wave of attack.
This time around is no different, as the team includes both villains like Taskmaster, Rhino, and Mr. Fear and anti-heroes like Star and,Batroc, the Leaper. This rag-tag group and current incarnation of the Thunderbolts face a tough decision after Knull invades Earth. Fight or die as Mayor Fisk tasks them with saving the city or die trying…or die right then and there. Oh yeah, also the fate of the entire world may rest in the hands of the absolute worst people in the Marvel Universe.
In an interview with SyFy.com, series writer Matthew Rosenberg talked about his excitement to unleash the potential of a new Thunderbolts team.
“Thunderbolts is one of the best concepts Marvel has ever produced. It’s a book that constantly reinvents itself in fun ways and it’s a real honor to carry on that tradition. I think we have a really wild premise and unique team, and letting them cut loose during the epic events of King In Black is going to be a really fun trial by fire for them.”
The new Thunderbolts hit the street this November as KING IN BLACK invades the Marvel Universe.
