Former Wolverine scribe Larry Hama and artist Roland Boschi are teaming up for a two-part tie into Marvel Comics’ “Iron Man 2020” event and bringing two of the characters Hama co-created along for the ride.
Friday, Marvel released the solicit for the upcoming two-parter iWolverine, which centers on Wolverine’s cybernetic allies, Albert and Elsie Dee.
Albert and Elsie Dee are the creations of Hama and Marc Silvestri and first appeared in Wolverine Vol 2 #37 (March 1991). Albert, a doppelganger of Wolverine and Elsie Dee, a robot that looks like a young girl were the creations of industrialist Donald Pierce who was part of the Reavers, a group cybernetically-enhanced mercenaries all of which were fatally wounded by Wolverine in battle. Else Dee and Albert would eventually become allies of Wolverine after Wolverine saved them.
The premise of iWolverine finds Albert and Elsie-Dee separated during the “robot revolution,” and Albert traveling to Madripoor to find her.
In an interview with CBR Hama said:
“I’m super ramped to be returning to two of my favorite supporting characters from my ’90s Wolverine run. Elsie Dee and Albert started out as an odd Bizarro version of Wolvy and Jube, but they quickly developed lives of their own, and their dialog was gosh-darn fun to write. Exhilarating to be able to dip into this particular font again, and I’m having a blast.”
