Image’s “GOD COUNTRY” is a modern fantasy epic that Legendary Entertainment is betting on to be their next comic hit.
This week Legendary Entertainment and AfterShock Media acquired the international film rights to Image’s “God Country” a smash hit who’s first issue was reprinted four times before it became a trade. Geoff Shaw, Donny Cates, Jason Wordie, and John J. Hill are the talent behind the comic and Cates will be writing the screenplay for the movie. Cates has also penned titles for Marvel like Venom, Dr. Strange, and Captain America.
If you still haven’t picked up “God Country” this high-stakes fantasy series that masterfully blends high-octane action and jaw-dropping worldbuilding is about Emmett Quinlan, an old widower rattled by dementia. Emmett isn’t just a problem for his children—his violent outbursts are more than the local cops can handle. When a tornado levels his home—as well as the surrounding West Texas town—a restored Quinlan rises from the wreckage. An enchanted sword at the eye of the storm gives him more than a sound mind and body, however. He’s now the only man who can face these otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn down to the Lone Star State.
God Country isn’t the only successful series from Image to make good in Hollywood, earlier this year Marguerite Bennett and Rafael de Latorre’s Animosity was also picked up by Legendary and AfterShock Media. With all this good news we here at Comic Watch can’t help but wonder what other amazing Image titles you the fans think should make it to the silver screen?
