John Prophet, Image Comics’ DNA enhanced super-soldier, is set to get adapted for the screen by Marc Guggenheim and Studio 8.
According to the entertainment news site Deadline, Guggenheim (CW’s ARROW, Legends of Tomorrow) and comic book writer, will bring the Rob Leifeld creation to life along with Adrian Askarieh (Hitman: Agent 47), Brooklyn Weaver (Run All Night), and Rob Liefeld. John Hyde and Terissa Kelton involved in producing capacities.
Prophet, created by Rob Liefeld, was originally part of the Youngblood team before spinning off into a solo series in 1993. The picture is part of the deal Leifeld made with Netflix for his Extreme Universe superhero characters, which is being creatively overseen by Akiva Goldsman.
The idea is to build a franchise around John Prophet, the DNA enhanced super-soldier who was then placed into a cryogenic freeze for a future mission only to awaken prematurely in the present. Originally a homeless man living during World War II, Prophet volunteered to be a part of an experimentation program being run by a time-traveling scientist from the future named Dr. Horatio Wells, who ends up turning John into a supersoldier by using DNA-enhancing methods, initially engineered to be a murderous villain. When awakened, Prophet finds himself searching for a purpose that does not exist, learning to control his ruthless berserker nature, and attempting to embrace his humanity.
