Marvel has released a trailer for the upcoming launch of a new Scarlet Witch ongoing series from writer Steve Orlando, artist Sara Pichelli, and colorist Matthew Wilson. The first issue of the series, which includes a redesign of the Scarlet Witch costume from Russell Dauterman, goes on sale January 4, 2023. The solo title picks up after Wanda’s acts of redemption in both the limited series X-Men: The Trial of Magneto, and Darkhold, the latter of which was written by Orlando.
The first redemption in the X-centric miniseries saw the sorceress pay for her crimes during the House of M, in which she depowered a majority of the mutant population. In the Trial of Magneto, Wanda created a method for resurrecting mutants outside the bounds of the Cerebro backs. In the Darkhold miniseries, Wanda is able to free herself from the influence of the book and its original holder, Chthon, the elder being of chaos that has driven her to acts of villainy in recent years, both in the comics and the MCU.
“Two of the major crosses that she’d been bearing for a long time had finally been lifted, so it really felt like a new moment,” Orlando told Polygon in a recent interview. “We talked about setting her up in a new place where she could put her power to service for all the people that she’s realized she could have helped if she had actually taken the time and done the work to reckon with herself sooner.”
