Before making his big-screen debut in 2021, Marvel’s premier blood-sucker, Morbius, The Living Vampire, will make his comic book return before being portrayed by Jared Leto.
Originally created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Morbius, The Living Vampire made his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 (1971). Quickly dubbed a charismatic antihero, he would appear in multiple horror anthologies and occasional guest appearances until getting his own solo series in 1992.
Coming in February, Morbius: Bond of Blood #1 delves into the character’s origins courtesy of comics veteran and former Marvel Executive Editor Ralph Macchio (Master of Kung Fu, Micronauts) with haunting artwork from Tom Reilly (The Immortal Hulk). This creative team will take Morbius back to the time when he was a brilliant biochemist whose unfortunate accident leaves him cursed with pseudo-vampiric abilities and fleshes out details of his transformation.
Billed as the perfect leaping on point before Sony Pictures’ upcoming movie, this series promises to tell the tragic tale of Emil Nikos, who was Dr. Michael Morbius’ research partner until fate transformed Emil into the first victim of Morbius’ bloodlust. Now, with Emil’s son dying from a strange blood disease, only Morbius can save him.
In an exclusive interview with SYFY WIRE, Editor Danny Khazem said about the series:
“For those looking to sink their teeth into who Morbius, the Living Vampire is, Ralph and Tom are truly embodying the energies from his origin to bring you a tale of intrigue and despair! This team is going to show why Morbius is such a unique and horrifying character in the Mighty Marvel Manner!”
Marvel Comics’ Morbius: Bond of Blood #1 materializes on shelves and digital platforms in February of 2021.
