Marvel has revealed that Miles Morales will be getting a new villain in the character’s upcoming relaunch. The new #1 from writer Cody Ziglar and artist Federico Vicentiti is set to introduce Rabble, a villain who uses drones and sophisticated technology to not only defeat Miles, but provide dangerous upgrades to the rest of his rogues gallery.
“It’s fantastic to work on this new character,” Vicentini said. “I was given total freedom of creation. Based on Cody’s description and on his notes, I had a clear idea of how I wanted to portray the armor; it had to be something rough, but resistant and ingenious at the same time. And thanks also to the drones, Rabble’s gonna rock! Brace yourself, Miles!”
Marvel has also confirmed that while the villain will appear in the first issue of the relaunched title, it won’t be until the second to see the full might of the new character. Marvel also teases Rabble has a personal agenda against the spider-themed hero, but remains vague. The details, while sparse, are interesting, as it loosely resembles Phin Mason, the newest Tinkerer that was created for the Miles Morales: Spider-Man game.
The character was an old friend of Miles that grew apart from him, and wound up leading a group of criminals called the Underground while assuming the Tinkerer mantle. The intersection of technical prowess and the personal agenda against Miles make an interesting connection between the characters, and would be a nice bridging of the strides made to Miles’s character outside of the comics.
