In a surprise move and much to the delight of fans, Netflix has released a bonus episode of The Sandman. Just weeks after the show premiered on Netflix a few weeks ago, the series has become a big hit on the service as the number one TV show in English since it premiered and it has been viewed for “196.98 million hours.”
Comic Watch Review: Sandman: What Dreams May Come
While this is most likely a one-time thing Sandman fans will have to make do with this single bonus episode which adapts two stories from the Sandman comics: “A Dream Of A Thousand Cats” and “Calliope.”
“A Dream Of A Thousand Cats” is an animated segment featuring a wild assemblage of voice actors (some of which are meta-Gaiman nods), including Sandra Oh, Joe Lycett, David Tennant, Michael Sheen, both of which star in Prime Video’s adaptation of Gaiman’s Good Omens. James McAvoy, who voices Morpheus in Audible’s audiobook version, and Neil Gaiman as Neil Gaiman also provide voices for the animated feature.”
“Calliope,” stars Melissanthi Mahut and Arthur Darvill (Dr. Who’s Rory Pond) as Richard Madoc, plus Derek Jacobi, Nina Wadia, Souad Faress, and Dinita Gohil.
Both parts of the episode are standalone stories, which most likely prompted there separate release from the rest of The Sandman series, similar to how they are presented in the original comics.
Tom Sturridge’s Dream makes an appearance as there will be important Sandman themes to dig into and play out in the second season.
All 11 episodes of the first season of The Sandman are now available for viewing through the streaming service.
