Its Star Wars Day, so no surprise that a big announcement about the future of the STAR WARS franchise would be announced, and fans were not disappointed.
Following the announcement last week that Leslye Headland (Russian Doll, Bachelorette) is in the process of developing a new untitled Star Wars series for the Disney+ streaming service, today it was announced that a new theatrical release is also in the works.
The next feature film for a theatrical release will be spearheaded by Academy Award® winner Taika Waititi (Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit) and who directed the widely-acclaimed first season finale episode of The Mandalorian on Disney+. Waititi will direct and co-write the new Star Wars feature film.
No release date for any of the projects was announced at this time.
