NEWS WATCH: No More Open-World Or Open-Universe Star Wars Game From EA

Electronic Arts open-world Star Wars game canceled and has little to say about it

With the 2017 bad news that Visceral Games was being shut down came some good news that Electric Arts was developing an open-world Star Wars game at their Vancouver office but that no longer seems true according to a report from Kotaku on Tuesday.

Well known for the super popular Dead Space horror series Visceral was also developing its own Star Wars game and had code-named the project Ragtag. This game was to be a linear action-adventure game directed by Amy Henning the director of Uncharted with EA Vancouver assisting on the project, so when EA closed Visceral Games on October 17, 2017, the Vancouver studio took on the project. With EA Vancouver taking the reins of this Star Wars game to be they retooled the project to be an open-world game and kept much of the art assets.

“It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design,” and added “A development team from across EA Worldwide Studios will take over development of this game, led by a team from EA Vancouver that has already been working on the project.” EA said when they broke the new that Visceral was closing and the Star Wars game would continue to be developed at EA Vancouver. And this was all the new to be had on the Star Wars game since EA has yet to responded to a request for comments till EA made a statement on Wednesday provided by Kotaku that reads:

“There’s been speculation overnight about one of our Star Wars projects. As a natural part of the creative process, the great work by our team in Vancouver continues and will evolve into future Star Wars content and games. We’re fully committed to making more Star Wars games, we’re very excited about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn, and we’ll share more about our new projects when the time is right.”
