NEWS WATCH: Omega Red To Be Seen in Deadpool 2

Deadpool 2 makeup artist reveals hidden mutants from Icebox scene including Omega Red are set to make it to Blu-ray release.

For anyone reading Weapon X at the moment, it will come as no surprise that the very latest member, recruited from Mother Russia, is none other than the death spore releasing mutant himself, Omega Red and officially joins the team in #22 (as shown below). However what has been a shock to some was that our boy Arkady had also been intended to make his way into Deadpool 2. When details were revealed about the Blu-ray release, rumors abound that Omega Red, who made his debut in X-Men #4 back in 1992, was already hidden in, or cut from the final edit of the film.

However though we saw the wondrous Zazie Beetz as Domino and Josh Brolin as the incomparable Cable, not to mention one of mainstays of X-Force in Shatterstar, as well as Zeitgeist, one of their ersatz replacements from X-Statix and even the brief scene of various Xavier School Alumni at the mansion, the scene from the prison set called the Icebox was cut. It had originally included the Ruskie villain among a gallery of other mutants and we can see him in full makeup, in this photo released by the man chosen for the role himself, NFL New York Jets rookie Dakoda Shepley.

But now True Believers, it seems we will get to see him in action after all. Included in the Blu-ray release will be a scene entitled “Chess With Omega Red”. Of course, the inclusion of chess implies a parody of the Xavier/Magneto faceoff in the X-Men movies, which could well be a scene showing Wade interacting with Red. But who knows, maybe Xavier felt like a game too?

And in an interview with The New York Post, Shepley himself revealed if not for scheduling conflicts with the Jets’ training camp he believes Omega Red could have had a larger role in the film. “It was a pretty cool experience,” he said. “My parents thought I’d be the next The Rock, an acting football player. “I can’t imagine being a full-time actor and being a full-time football player. The days I was there, even as an extra, I was there from 7 am to midnight. Where am I going to work out? I’d have no time to train. It’s definitely something I’d like to pursue after football, whenever that may be.”

And along with this photo there were also some other images to be seen. Released by makeup designer Bill Corso on Instagram, we can see among them his own shot of Omega Red as well as the other Icebox mutant detainees. “To celebrate the Comic-Con showing of our special, Mega Fan only, ‘Deadpool 2: the Unrated Cut’, I’ve decided to show the, blink and you’ll miss them, Mutant Villains of the Ice Box Prison,” Corso wrote. “Some characters from the Marvel Universe hidden here are Omega Red, and various others from sifting through the FOX approved X-Men Universe.”

It is also possible the scene will be put back into the film for the “Super Duper Cut” set to debut at Comic-Con on Saturday. The Super Duper Cut will contain new footage that creates a unique viewing experience (much like the re-release of the very first X-Men movie) vastly different from the theatrical version, which could mean a larger role for some of the mutant inmates of the Ice Box.

Deadpool 2 comes to digital 7th August, and will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray 21st August.
