NEWS WATCH: Oni Press and Limerence Press To Release A Quick and Easy Guide To Consent

In the era of the #MeToo movement, Oni Press and Limerence Press are proud to announce their latest edition to the A Quick and Easy Guide series, with A Quick and Easy Guide To Consent this October.

The “A Quick and Easy Guide” series started in 2018, including such titles as A Quick and Easy Guide to Queer and Trans IdentitiesA Quick and Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns, and A Quick and Easy Guide to Sex & Disability.

This new addition to the line is called A Quick and Easy Guide To Consent is written and illustrated by Isabella Rotman, the co-author and illustrator of Wait, What? A Comic Book Guide to Relationships, Bodies, and Growing Up, also from Limerence Press.

As the longtime artist in residence at Scarleteen.com, a website dedicated to sexual health and education information for teens and young adults, Rotman is no stranger to highlighting important conversations.

In a press release from Oni Press, Rotman, who is no stranger to highlighting and tackling important conversations stated:

“Consent, at its core, is simple. Sex with anyone other than yourself is a collaborative effort, and consent is the state we must be in engage in that effort. It’s about viewing your partner or partners as sovereign and free agents of their own sexuality and co-creators in your shared intimacy. With that viewpoint, the only thing left to do is communicate.”

In A Quick and Easy Guide to Consent,  Rotman explores how to tell someone you want to do stuff with them; how to ask if they want to do stuff with you; how to discuss exploring what stuff you want to do with each other; and more. Sergeant Yes Means Yes from the Consent Cavalry, the beacon of clarity in the fuzzy minefield of questions, acts as your guide through the tricky minefield of sex and relationships. Sarge also drops in on a diverse range of folks deciding whether to engage in sexual activity in this short and fun comic guide to communicating what you want, don’t want, and how you want it!

With wit and charm, Sarge also includes tips on what affirmative consent looks like, advocating for what you want, and setting boundaries that honor your comfort and safety. The result is a positive resource illustrating how easy it really is to respect each other’s bodies and desires.

Rotman also said:

“This is more than just an extension of sex education. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to create this book. Consent isn’t just for sexual encounters, it’s a fundamental building block that should be practiced in every human interaction.”

A Quick and Easy Guide to Consent will be available where ever books are sold on October 28, 2020.
