Filmmaker Ryan Coogler will be writing and directing the sequel to the groundbreaking 2018 film Black Panther.
Yes, Ryan Coogler will be back for Black Panther 2 and Marvel studio’s is doing everything they can to bring the team back for the sequel. This is not a unexpected maneuver from Marvel considering that Black Panther is a commercially and critically acclaimed hit that starred Chadwick Boseman which grossed $700 million domestically and more than $1.3 billion worldwide. Not only is the movie a contender for Oscar consideration the film also became a defining cultural moment in 2018 but it’s always good to have these kinda things in writing.
Black Panther tells the story of T’Challa who returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.
Coogler’s camp played cool it and hashed out the deal with Marvel under the radar while under immense pressure to sign one. The Hollywood Reporter has stipulated that Coogler will write the script next year and could go into production as early late 2019 but most likely 2020. Disney the parent company for Marvel has made an official announcement about the next slate of movies past the release date of the next Avengers film in May 2019 and a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel in July — but plans could change.
Not only does Coogler have Black Panther in his future he is also developing Wrong Answer with Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan he also is executive producing LeBron James’ Space Jam sequel and will be working on the upcoming Creed 2.
