NEWS WATCH: SDCC 2018 X-Men Panel Reveals Return of ‘Uncanny’ and More

An underwhelming weekend of Marvel Comics news from Comic-con International yields a few details regarding the new direction for Marvel’s Merry Mutants.

In a panel featuring Editor in Chief C.B. Cebuiski, Sina Grace, Seanan McGuire, Matt Rosenberg, and Tom Taylor, a few details were revealed regarding upcoming developments in the X-Men related line of titles at Comic-con International in San Diego, California.

Highlighting the reveals was the announcement that November will herald the much-desired return of Uncanny X-Men, to the delight of X-Fans. No details regarding the creative team or series roster were revealed, however.

Also among noteworthy topics was the reveal that the recently announced X-Men: Black is not an ongoing title, but rather a series of five one-shots, each revolving around a different prominent X-villain. Leading the way is the return of Chris Claremont to pen the Magneto one-shot, with art from Dalibor Talajic. The other one-shots will be: Emma Frost (from Leah Williams and Chris Bachalo), Mojo (from Scott Auckerman and Nick Bradshaw), Mystique (from McGuire and Marco Failla), Juggernaut (from Robbie Thompson and Shawn Crystal), and Apocalypse (from Lonnie Nadler and Zac Thompson).

Other minor announcements include:

– The return of Wolverine’s classic costume as well as the addition of hot-claws inspired by the Marvel vs. Capcom video game.

– Sina Grace announced that Emma Frost and Sinister will appear in his newly-returned Iceman solo series.

– The solo Shatterstar book is a definite go.

While expectations of some discussion of the upcoming Extermination crossover were high, no noteworthy details were released as Marvel continued to under-perform compared to their now Cross-Country Rivals, leading many to question the fate of the future of print comics from the industry giant.
