Sony Entertainment is not letting the pandemic slow down their expansion of Marvel Film titles on their docket. Though production on the next Venom installment and Morbius film are currently on hold, the studio has been making announcements concerning their upcoming projects in the Spider-verse.
The studio seems to be banking on the Spider-Man characters to rival other studios’ comic book pics currently in development. Along with the Venom 2 and Jared Leto’s Morbius projects, the studio also recently set S.J. Clarkson, to direct an untitled Madame Web pic and tapped Marc Guggenheim to write the Jackpot movie.
The most recent announcement according to the entertainment site DEADLINE J.C. Chandor ( (Margin Call, A is that Most Violent Year and most recently Netflix’s Triple Frontier) is in talks to direct a Kraven the Hunter picture, the latest film to gain momentum in the studio’s Universe of Marvel Characters. According to DEADLINE, even before it set this new cinematic universe in motion, Kraven the Hunter is a property the studio has longed to make as Richard Wenk, who penned The Equalizer films for Sony, has already written the script.
This announcement came less than 24 hours after Deadline also broke the news that Olivia Wilde would be directing an untitled Marvel movie for Sony centered around the Spider-Woman character.
Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven the Hunter, is one of Spider-Man’s best known and most formidable enemies as well as the half-brother of the Chameleon. The character has appeared in numerous Spider-Man properties, including the famous story Kraven’s Last Hunt.
The next installment in the Spider-Man franchise also begins shooting this winter, and Sony ENtertainment had no comment about the Kraven film, and no date has been announced as Chandor’s deal hasn’t closed yet. While there are still many unknowns, Sony is clearly intent on stacking its film slate full of Marvel characters.
