NEWS WATCH: Spider-Man Robot To Take To The Sky Over Disney Theme Park

This summer, Spider-Man will be swinging through the air above California Adventure park in Anaheim, thanks to a new robot stunt double.

This new Spider-Man stunt double is the latest creation from the Disney Imagineers, who have brought park-goers such memorable animatronic attractions such as the Pirates of the Caribbean and the Hall of Presidents.  Unlike his predecessors, the new Spider-man stunt robot will let his moves and acrobatics do the talking for him.

The stunt Spidey is part of Marvel’s growing presence that is in store for the West Coast theme park. The attraction is made possible due to the deal between Sony and Disney, which has Colombia Pictures owning the rights to Spider-Man’s solo adventures but lets Disney use him as supporting character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The stunt double will make its debut the same year Disney celebrates the 60th anniversary of their first fly-over attraction, which was a cast member dressed as Tinkerbell attached to a zipline.

The following video is a clip from The Imagineering Story, the series that looks behind-the-scenes of the work of Disney Imagineers and the stuff they create.  The following shows the Imagineers testing out the stunt double and showing off the different poses it can do:

Although the current model looks like a suped-up crash test dummy, the robot has the moves and smooth fluidity for something that is launched into the air. One can only imagine what the attraction will look like to park attendees once he is decked out in the Spider-Man costume and what the Imagineers will do next.
