NEWS WATCH: Spotty Villain to Join James Gunn’s Suicide Squad Movie

Actor David Dastmalchian who has starred in movies like Ant-Man and will be playing the role of twisted Mentat assassin in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune adaption has joined the cast of James Gunn’s Suicide Squad movie as an obscure villain known as The Polka Dot Man.

According to THR, Dastmalchian, who has appeared in several DC related roles including a part in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight as one of the Joker’s henchmen and part in CW’s The flash and several episodes of Gotham will join the rogue’s gallery of  Ratcatcher, Peacemaker and King Shark in Gunn’s movie which has been billed as more of a reinvention of the property and not so much a sequel to David Ayer’s previous Suicide Squad film.

For those that don’t know The Polka Dot Man also known as Mr. Polka Dot is a villain that first appeared in 1962’s Detective Comics No. 300. The character whose name is Abner Krill, a polka dot costumed villain who uses polka dot gimmicks to comic polka dot crimes (REALLY) usually involving the polka dots on his costume being able to become various weapons or other devices for nefarious purposes. The character was created by Sheldon Moldoff and Charles Paris and has appeared no more than a dozen or so times since his debut. Gunn is known for his love of obscure characters so this choice is not as surprising as it would seem. It will be interesting to see what Gunn does with the character for the movie.
