The DC Universe streaming app started WonderCon out with a star-spangled bang this weekend when they revealed the official costume for Stargirl, the heroine of the upcoming Stargirl tv series on the app. In a role essayed by Brec Bassinger, Stargirl is about high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore, who inspires a group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. The series will reimagine both Stargirl and the Justice Society of America, the very first superhero team.
This series marks Stargirl’s third live-action adaptation, but the first time she’s allowed to be, well, the star of the show. The costume this time around is a great adaptation of her traditional comics look, with materials that seem to be made of far higher quality than the costumes which appeared on Smallville and Legends of Tomorrow. Also of note in the image is the fact that STRIPE seems to be behind Stargirl, looming large. The full reveal of his look is sure to come soon, and from the hints, we’re given here, it’s likely to be wonderfully impressive and true to the comics incarnation of the hero.
Stargirl is produced by Berlanti Productions and Mad Ghost Productions in association with Warner Bros Television. Geoff Johns, who in 1999 created the character of Stargirl as a tribute to his late sister, will be the showrunner for the series and has written the first episode.
The series is expected to launch in early 2020, just in time for the character’s twenty-first birthday.
