This fall, Tenacious D, the official Greatest Band in the World and conquers of music (of course) along with television to movies, will add comic books to the list with the release of their very first Tenacious D graphic novel.
Post-Apocalypto, published by Fantagraphics Books, will be a 180-page hardcover that shares its title with both the band’s YouTube series and album from 2018. The book will be co-written by band members Jack Black and Kyle Gass and hand-drawn by Black.
Post-Apocalypto tells the story of the rock duo as they explore a post-apocalyptic hellscape as they battle all-new forms of evil mutations, visit space, and the White House as they try to save the world in the wake of an atomic blast.
The original graphic novel is set to include a streamable read-along audiobook version of the book voiced by Gass and Black, a Tenacious D soundtrack album.
In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, the members of Tenacious D said:
“When we finished this book, there was only one publisher we ever really considered. Fantagraphics has been the shining beacon of creativity in comic books for decades. We are thrilled to release our magnum opus with the undisputed greatest and best comic book publisher in the world. Fantagraphics 4 life.”
Prepare to rock out as Post-Apocalypto lands on shelves in September 2020 with a $29.99 price tag.
