Humanoids comics deepen their talent pool with new director of creative development MARK WAID
Hot off the heels of hiring comic artist superstar John Cassaday as the company’s new chief creative officer, European publisher Humanoids comic has just brought on Mark Waid as first director of creative development.
“This opportunity excites me to no end,” Waid said in a recent statement about his new role. And it’s evident that he plans to get the most out of this unique opportunity when he said “I’ve seen what Humanoids is about to unleash, and it’s unlike anything else I’ve ever seen in this industry. I had to be a part of it. The chance to work closely with younger, diverse talent with strong voices — to learn as well as to teach — is electrifying.”
Mark Waid has made quite the name for himself over the years with his work on Daredevil, Captain America, and personal favorite Age of Apocalypse for Marvel comics and co-created the now classic DC comics Kingdom Come with Alex Ross as well as other DC titles like the Legion of Super-Heroes and the Flash. He has also penned other great works with companies like Crossgen, Boom!, Archie, and established a free digital comics website called Thrillbent. And even though this is a new role its an old hat for him as he has been both editor at DC and editor-in-chief/chief creative officer of Boom! Studios.
“Mark Waid has written some of the most popular and most influential stories in the history of comics. To bring a writer like Waid into the fold ? to both write new stories and to help us develop and refine other projects? speaks to the ambition and seriousness of our plans for the future.” Humanoids CEO and publisher Fabrice Giger said about Waid in a recent statement.
“Humanoids 20th Anniversary in America,” the official description of which teases, “New projects! New heroes! Hot creators! A bold new direction ushering in a new era in comics.” That panel takes place Friday, Oct. 5, at 1:30 p.m. in Room 1A02 and in advance of that panel, Humanoids has released the logo of the new initiative, called H1, and also has launched a new Twitter account for the program.
As always we will be watching?
