Following his debut in the 2020 limited series THE RISE OF ULTRAMAN published by Marvel Entertainment in conjunction with Tsuburaya Productions, Ultraman returns in March in a new limited series.
Writers Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom with art by Francesco Manna and Gurihiru return to the character they introduced and pick up where the last series ended in THE TRIALS OF ULTRAMAN. Picking up directly after Ultraman’s explosive battle with Bemular, Ultraman realizes that while he may have saved the world, now come the consequences. Now Earth’s greatest defender will have to contend with a suspicious populace, hidden enemies, the mysterious return of a long-thought-lost comrade, and The Kaiju who have escaped their vault.
In a press release from Marvel about this new installment in the Ultraman mythos, Higgins and Groom explained the direction this new series will take:
“In THE RISE OF ULTRAMAN, we had to create a whole new universe (built on the powerful concepts and characters of the original television shows). Then, in the final issue of RISE, we turned that world upside-down. Now, in THE TRIALS OF ULTRAMAN, we get to really explore this new universe – the consequences of decisions made in RISE, and the possibilities (as well as tensions) of a newly-fantastical global community. The introduction is over… now, we’ll be diving into the real meat of our Ultraman saga. And the stakes and scale will only continue to grow.”
