NEWS WATCH: The One And Only Scott McCloud’s “The Sculptor” Is Coming To The Big Screen.

Warner Bros has acquired and assembled the perfect team for the big screen adaptation of The Sculptor.

Writer Scott McCloud has had his work The Sculptor pickup by Warner Bros who will have Destin Daniel Cretton, the director behind drama Short Term 12, playwright Michael Mitnick, and film company 21 Laps as the team to bring this 2015 graphic novel to life.

The Sculptor tells the story of 26-year-old New York-based artist David Smith who is dealing with a difficult life when Death greets him in the guise of his dead uncle Harry and grants him his childhood wish to sculpt anything he can imagine with his bare hand but only has 200 days to live.

McCloud has written comics like Zot! and Destroy!! but gained acclaim and the title “Aristotle of comics”, when he created graphic novels Understanding Comics (1993), Reinventing Comics (2003) and Making comics(2006). The Sculptor, which was published in 2015 amid heavy fanfare had its rights bought by Sony with Scott Rudin tagged to produce, but the rights recently reverted, with 21 Laps, the film-television geniuses behind Stranger Things and their wasting zero time to develop their adaptation with Cretton and Mitnick.

Mitnick will write the script with Cretton directing the film while Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps will produce. Niija Kuykendall and Rebecca Cho from Warner Bros will be overseeing from the studio with Becca Edelman overseeing from 21 Laps.

Nothing else is known about the movie to be just yet but stay here with us at Comic Watch for more news on The Sculptor.

As always we will be watching
