IDW’s “Rocketeer Reborn” mini gets cancelled before release.
“IDW deeply appreciates the excitement and support received from Rocketeer fans upon the announcement of the Rocketeer Reborn series. Unfortunately, with heavy hearts, we have to cancel this particular series, but never fear, The Rocketeer will return from IDW!” A statement to The Hollywood Reporter about the cancellation from IDW
IDW Publishing has canceled the upcoming miniseries of Dave Stevens Rocketeer “Rocketeer Reborn” mere weeks before it was scheduled to launch, which was recently confirmed by THR.
IDW’s update of the iconic pulp comic book hero for the 21st century titled “Rocketeer Reborn” was slated to be a five-issue miniseries in which Cliff Secord’s jetpack was discovered decades after he had last flown through the sky. Announced back in September with a December 26 release date, the series to be had a creative team consisting of Elsa Charretier, Pierrick Colinet, and Javier Pulido. This comes as disappointing news considering a statement by Charretier and Colinet during the time of the initial book announcement saying “immense honor … to contribute to Dave Stevens’ legacy, and a big responsibility as well,” adding, “We hope people will find a fresh, pulp-noir, modern Rocketeer, as Javier Pulido’s wonderfully unique style and inventive storytelling bring this new adventure to life.” Charretier has since tweeted “IDW has always been a great publisher to work with, and Pierrick & I are looking forward to another collaboration with them. Even though the Rocketeer is canceled, we’re definitely hoping to read more of Cliff’s adventures in the future.”
IDW reach out on Monday to comic store retailers that all made orders for the two issues that had previously been solicited had been canceled, with no plans to solicit again at later date.
