Spinning out of Marvel’s Disney+ WandaVision will be a new series featuring Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as Agatha Harkness, Wanda’s nosey neighbor Agnes.
The announcement, an exclusive announcement on the entertainment website Variety was vague on any specifics, it was reported that it will be in the dark comedy vein. In comic book continuity and in the show, Agatha is shown to have survived the Salem Witch Trials and is more than a match for Wanda, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch. In the “WandaVision,” finale Wanda traps Agatha in Westview after reverting her back to her Agnes persona.
Originally airing in January-March of 2021, “WandaVision,” was the first of the live-action Marvel series for Disney Plus. The show was met with widespread acclaim, racking up 23 Emmy nominations, which included Hahn for best-supporting actress in a limited series. The show also garnered a win for best original music and lyrics category for the song “Agatha All Along,” which revealed the true nature of Hahn’s character and not who she appeared to be.
“WandaVision” head writer Jac Schaeffer is slated to serve as the writer and executive producer on the project, should the spinoff go forward, making it her first project with Marvel after signing an overall deal with them and 20th Television in May.
Stay tuned for more news about this project as they develop.
