NEWS WATCH: Will Emma Frost be in another X-Book or is it something else?

It’s Friday and as we wind down the working week nothing like some wild speculation to bring in the weekend especially if that speculation is around something X-Men related.

Emma Frost is a character that people hate or love in equally large measure. On one hand, she has done some fairly despicable things in the past but on the other, she has saved people, mutants, the world and yes even the universe. Her fan base who are dubbed “Frostitutes” are passionate and very vocal in their defense of their White Queen ahem I mean Black King. Lately, though fans have been feeling that the new self-crowned (see Leah Williams X-Men Black: Emma Frost one shot for the details) Black King has for a while now been getting the short end of the stick in the main X-titles but could that be changing?

We already know she will be appearing in Matthew Rosenberg’s Uncanny X-Men as solicited on several covers for the current run and we know that Jonathan Hickman who has an impending (and much talked about) dual story arc coming up is a self-proclaimed fan of the character which could mean that Ms. Frost could be returning to a more regular appearance in X-titles. Then there is this…

While scrolling through Instagram we happened upon this new wip picture by artist Matteo Lolli, a regular Marvel artist, who is actually not currently solicited on any of the current and forthcoming X-titles:

As I said nothing like a bit of wild speculation. TBA to be announced as in not announced yet so nothing we know about at this point which seems to rule out Uncanny X-Men, Hickman’s House of X and Power of X, War of The Realms, X-Force or anything currently running…so the question is what is it?

It’s important to note that while the character of Emma Frost has not been a mainstay regular in the X-Books for a while she has been spotted in several other comics such as Kelly Thompson’s superb Jessica Jones: Purple Daughter (magnificently drawn by Mattia De Lulis) as well as in the recent Infinity Wars event. Could this mean that her role under the current editorial regime is that of guest star in other Marvel series or could we be getting another X-Book in the line?

The truth is these things are planned long in advance and Marvel will announce it when they good and ready but it’s also maddening fun to speculate and also therapeutic for Emma Frost fans to know that at least in the coming future they will be getting to see more of her regardless of the title she may appear in.
